The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one of the pioneer Departments established under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) since 1993.Since its inception, the Department has run Higher National (HND) Mechanical Engineering under Four (4) sections with four (4) options; Plant Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Production Engineering and ....

To develop the capacity to impart sufficient knowledge to students through top-notch training so that our graduates would be adequately resourced to function in any competitive environment where premium is placed on continuous and progressive improvement and to carve a niche for ourselves as a widely recognized hub for training and equipping students with world class employable skills.

To achieve this vision, the department strives to produce competent graduates who under minimum or no supervision will be able to:
design machine systems in the Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering fields.
produce machine systems in the Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering fields.
manage Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering workshops.
operate Mechanical and Manufacturing Systems.
conduct research in the Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering industry.
maintain and repair equipment and machines that are used in the Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering.
characterize Mechanical and Manufacturing Processes.
develop plans to manufacture various Mechanical and Machine Systems.
The mission of the Department of Mechanical Engineering is to generate knowledgeable, skilled, innovative, entrepreneurial and problem-solving graduates with a solid grasp of mechanical engineering principles who can significantly contribute to the activities of the industrial sectors in Ghana and abroad.
The Department espouses values including Integrity, Trailblazing, Inclusiveness, Commitment and Equal Opportunities and sustainable utilisation of the environment.
