Departmental Profile
The Department of Civil Engineering is one of the well-endowed seven Departments under the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) with excellent human resources and the fastest growing in the running of tertiary programmes at Kumasi Technical University. It is located at the Amakom Campus of Kumasi Technical University.
The Department has carved a niche for itself in the delivery of Competency Based Training (CBT) concept of methodology in transferring knowledge and acquiring skills set in the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) educational space.
Since 1996, it has shown a lot of potential to become one of the well-resourced centers in training professional Civil Engineers in various specialties under various academic spheres including a Higher National Diploma (HND), Bachelor of Technology (BTech) and Master of Technology all in Civil Engineering.
Our Master of the Technology degree programme is a well-resourced and thought-through master’s degree programme in Water and Environmental Engineering with strong involvement from industry and practice. This CBT concept of methodology which strengthens practical content and demonstration as well as a skills-led acquisition that is dominant in our curricula makes the Department the preferred choice for undergraduate and post-graduate programmes across tertiary institutions in Ghana.
The Department provides teaching, research, and community service to the community in the area of Road and Highway, Waste Management and Environmental Sanitation, Structural Engineering, Geotechnical, and Groundwater Quality as well as spatial data acquisition, management and analysis.
The head of the Department is currently Engr. Dr. Prince Appiah Owusu.

The mission of the Civil Engineering Department is to provide high-quality teaching, career-focused education, and training at the tertiary level with an emphasis on practical training, experience, and entrepreneurial skills to students to meet the middle and higher-level manpower needs of the country.
